Does Eating Lots of Fruit Make You Shaky, Spacey or Hungry?

After yesterday’s blog post… What’s Wrong with the Fruit or Fat Paradigm?

….I got a bunch of relevant questions in from one of my subscribers.

Below I’ll share just a small part of what she wrote and then I’ll give my feedback.

=====
Roger,

Do you think one can get fat eating fruit?  I have noticed very
difficult maintaing weight at eating things like grapes and tons of
apples.  Question – what about avocados?  Grains also have added a
bulk?

Thanks

Yes certainly one can put on plenty of pounds from eating fruit.

I’ve written about this many times before and quite a few other raw food teachers have come out about their experiences of putting on excessive pounds after following this notion that it’s impossible to get fat from eating fruit.

In fact, Andrew Perlot did a 75-day experiment with this that you can see here.

Can You Get “Super Sized” on Fruit?

I can assure you this fruit can’t make you fat information is 100% false and is designed to sell you a fantasy that just isn’t true.

I’ve been coaching raw foodists for 13 years now and from early on I figured out that sometimes they were getting fat from eating lots of raw fruit.

Not that there’s anything wrong with eating fruit.

It’s just like anything else, you have to watch how many calories you consume if you don’t want to look like Jabba the Hut.

It was not the case with me initially because I was able to eat as much as I wanted and stay razor thin.

But I was open to the fact that just because it worked for me it might not work for everyone.

In fact, over the years I have seen countless people pack on the pounds because they believed this magical idea that you can’t get fat from eating fruit.

Wrong.

It happened to my partner Karmyn.

It happened to a friend of mine who easily packed on 30 pounds as a result of this imbalanced way of eating. He was constantly gorging on fruit and he got quite a bit plumper as a result.

In fact, there was even one woman who took this to an extreme.

A former anorexic gained 80 pounds following this misguided philosophy.

Several others following this exact same system have reported gaining 30 to 50 pounds.

THANK YOU and thank you.  Yes, I am a woman and find that fruits make
me super hungry, especially at night and cause spaciness/binging.  Why
is it mostly in women? What can I read from your work to learn more.
Please share, as I read most of your books but haven’t seen an answer
and explanation …

What works best for women, even your wife.  Many innocent women are
confused my this raw food propaganda and are dying for clarity and
answers.

Honestly, I don’t know why it happens more-so for women.

But it also happens to men.

Some men add ye old hippo butter too from eating unlimited quantities of raw fruit.

Basically, if you were the kind of person who used to easily gain weight in the past (male or female) then “excessive” fruit is likely to pack on the pounds.

In my early days of going raw I used to experience similar feelings of spaciness and shaking. I’d feel completely weird or spacey after a day of eating mostly bananas and some other fruit.

But in a short time my body adapted.

After I month I did a lot better.

Then after a year I barely noticed any weirdness or shakiness at all. But it took all of that time for my body to fully adjust after years of eating cooked food.

The longer I went raw the easier it became to eat lots of fruit.

However, this may not work for everyone.

Or you may notice that some fruits in particular give you problems.

For instance Karmyn found that eating bananas increased her appetite dramatically. For some reason there is something in bananas that stimulates Karmyn’s appetite to the extreme (especially when she was nursing). And of course, she put on a significant amount of poundage due to bananas never satisfying her hunger.

For me that’s not the case at all. Bananas do satisfy my hunger.

Especially in my green smoothies of which I share my favorite recipe in Savory Veggie Stews.

In fact, that’s also a great way to deal with the spacy feelings. Don’t eat fruit by itself but combine it with greens and the easiest way to do that is with green smoothies.

But even I have to watch how many fruit calories I eat now. I have to limit my bananas if I don’t want to become gordito.

=====
Roger – thank you.  You must help shed this light on people and spread
the word/teach us all

You can’t imagine how many of my girlfriends are suffering from this.
They would not touch any cooked food or an avocado, but would guorge
on lbs of high sugar fruit and still would be starving…  I myself
would have hard time waking up next day from all this fruit, felt
fatigue and shaky, with feeling of numbness

Well as I discussed in yesterday’s blog post the Fruit or Fat paradigm is flawed.

There’s a whole other way to get your carbs in that doesn’t involve fruit and they’re generally not sweet.

I call it Savory Raw Carbs.

And we’ll soon be launching a coaching program teaching you the nutritionally balanced and yummy way to go raw.

I mean… you can’t just be eating dessert all day long.

And this notion that going raw is so difficult is mostly because people have been taught the wrong way to go raw for years.

But in the meantime I highly suggest you start enjoying Savory Veggie Stews because eating lots of greens is a counterbalance to the fruit and makes it much easier to stay raw.

And eating a SVS meal for dinner will balance you out your nutrients and help relieve that shaky, spacy and weird feeling you may get from eating fruits.

You can even alternate a fruit meal with Savory Veggie Stews if you can’t handle two fruit meals in a row.

For once you get in a lot of greens and get them in a Savory Way it balances out the excessive sweetness from eating at least 2 to 4 full meals of fruit per day.

And Savory Veggie Stews is currently on FIRESALE.

I recommend that you pick up this raw food classic before the price increases at midnight tonight Eastern or New York City time.
