Could This Be Why You’re Not Exercising?

If you don’t exercise regularly this could be the reason.

Yesterday I was reading the responses in the Lightning Speed Fitness Program member’s forum. I had given a special technique to one member to help motivate her to gradually increase the intensity of her workouts.

She was doing a workout every day but it was just really on the lower end of what she could have been doing. And for days on end it was the exact same workout without any attempt to increase the difficulty. Which is of course much better than doing nothing. But I figured at some point she’d want to start progressing.

When I heard back from her she shared that what I wrote didn’t motivate her to exercise, it was actually a demotivator.

But then the all important detail came out.

She said she had only been sleeping 4 hours a night for many nights and really didn’t even feel like doing the workout she was already doing.

Well of course I thought to myself.

I’d never force myself to do hard workouts on only 4 hours of sleep per night. Heck I’d barely be functioning on that little sleep.

Sleep is so crucial to all aspects of peak performance.

You can’t build your body on so little sleep unless there’s some kind of Divine Intervention. But basic fitness principles aside…

If you don’t sleep you’re simply not going to feel like exercising.

I’ve seen the charts before… of how much less people sleep these days than 100 years ago. It’s like an hour or two less.

All of the TV’s, computers and electronic gadgets keep us awake for hours on end. We try to squeeze in so many things into our days.

And before we know it, we’ve gone WAY past our bedtime. Of course, there can be many other reasons for a lack of sleep.

The key point is if you want to get fit, the first (and to me obvious) prerequisite is that you need to be very well rested.

And when you do get enough sleep you all of a sudden have way more energy and the desire to exercise and be productive at anything naturally goes up.

Do NOT try to get away with sleeping less as so many people these days try to do.

It will only sabotage your health and peak performance. It will even make you depressed. If anything I encourage my students to sleep more than they even think is normal.

For that’s when you start to get breakthroughs in muscle growth, strength and even in your productivity at work. It’s like giving yourself a smarter brain and a stronger body.

Everything works better when you’ve had the proper amount of deep sleep.

Professional athletes have known this for years.

Elite marathon runners from Kenya may be sleeping or resting a good 12 to 16 hours a day in preparation for competitions.

I remember years ago tennis champion Steffi Graf saying she slept 10 hours per night. Seemed to work for her as she is one of the greatest female tennis players of all time.

So if you’re wondering why you don’t feel motivated to exercise then maybe try getting an extra hour or two of sleep and see what happens then.

And when you’ve gotten enough sleep then cranking out a simple ab and core exercise for two seconds here and there will seem like doing nothing.

In fact, you’ll probably want to do a full out “Lightning Speed Fitness Program” workout too. But even that can easily be done in 10 minutes or so in the comfort of your own home depending on your goals and fitness level.
