hamburgers - fries - spaghetti - bread - cookies - salty chips
If you've tried to go 100% raw you more than likely ran into that nagging, deep down feeling that something isn't quite right with what you're eating that I describe in the video below.
In my early days of trying to go raw I had this strange nagging feeling in the back of my mind. Something with this diet just wasn't right.
There certainly wasn't enough protein. All the food was so watery. There was nothing solid to sink my teeth into. This couldn't be natural could it? it didn' feel right. It's crazy to eat all of this fruit. Isn't it?
And the textures of the raw fruits and vegetables were not anything I was used to. Where was that good old stick to your ribs feeling I got when eating oatmeal? I was always trying to find something in the Raw Food Diet that reminded me and felt like my favorite cooked foods.
Where was the crunchiness I was used to? What do you do when you want to eat some chocolate chip cookies? There are no chocolate chip cookie fruits that I know of. Everything seemed so unnatural.
It just couldn't be right to eat this way. Could it? It certainly didn't feel right to me.
But then again you were talking to someone who ate cooked food for 30 plus years. In short, this was reasoning coming from a raw food ignoramus / cooked food addict.
If you want to know how I dealt with this common Raw Food Diet problem and how I feel about this now then watch the video above.

I agree with you. I and my business partner left the toxic world of cooked processed foods before adding ane meal a day or two a week of anything cooked. He had tremendous health challenges of tumors with Lympathic conditions. I decided to join in this raw foods diet and WOW, what a difference in my health as well.
Chocolate was my worst one to let go of, but I'm sure it was the sugar addition, so not blaming the chocolate. use an organic sugar free once in a while now.
I feel much better since I eat most of my meals raw.
Thanks Roger for sharing your experiences with us
Thank you so much for posting this today! I've been struggling with this feeling a lot lately, to the extent that even when I'm not hungry, when I'm just theorizing about the perfect combination of foods to eat over the course of a day, I keep thinking something bready needs to be in there. It's really frustrating, feeling like the raw food diet is missing something. But your explanation is right on, thanks for the wake up call!
I really enjoyed the video. You made alot of sense and it really motivated me to keep going in the same direction. I am confortable with raw foods especially just eating simple. I do like trying recipes but they all seem to have to much nuts or oil in it. I have been folling Frederic and that is how I stumbled across your sight. I enjoy reading your emails. Keep up the great work. Thank you so much for following your calling as others also have to inspire others like myself.
I guess I was just ready because I have not questioned my rawness yet. I started raw July 2008, about 3 months now and the other day by mistake or without thinking I put a piece of bread in my mouth while tasting olive oil and I had to spit it out. I had not thought about bread, rice, pasta or grains since I started only because I wasn't cooking or toasting.
BTW, you are really beautiful.
Thank you.
Rei
I didn't really get any kind of solution except wait it out. I am dealing with the daily struggles and trying to stay on the path, but it's harder than anyone lets on. Everyday specific strategies would be much more helpful than 7+ minutes of hang in there, buddy.
I am cold all the time since going raw. I am about 70-75% raw. I drink smoothies, not so much with greens, my blender is not to strong. I eat salads, rarely nuts and I am waiting to start sprouting. I know you are not a big sprout fan, but while I't have been a vegetarin since 1964 I am just a couple of months into raw food. What to do about being cold? It isn't even cold here in Chicago yet.
I love your site and the books you have for reference are wonderful a lot of them you can't find anymore. I do recomend people join your membership, it is well worth it.
Thanks for the good work
Invest in a tripod Roger, makes viewing easier, but good information definitely a big issue the feeling of being fed
Thanks for the insight. That was very helpful.
Nice video! You are good on camera; you should put videos on the site more often.
Try handling the emotional cravings by meditating with closed eyes and 'just' concentrate on the breathing for 20 minutes.
The best part of the day to meditate might be immediately before sleeping at night,to help to sleep better with a calm mind.
I know what you mean. You might benefit by starting a journal if you haven't already with specific sections and in one section write down all the negative conditions you experienced before going raw and leave room under each one to add comments as to when you get/got relief and how you experience/d that relief. You might also have a section that lists anyone you know and the negative symptoms they have and how they did or could get relief from the raw diet. Another section could list all the positive unexpected benefits that you and others have experienced. Still another could refresh your brain by listing things you read about the raw diet that you don't want to forget. I find I am newly blown away by the facts every time I go back and reread Gabriel Cousens's, Alissa Cohen's and Susan Schenk's books. It also helps to keep raw treats constantly available to yourself. My husband delights in two or three fresh or fresh frozen strawberries. I love the flavored nuts I bought at the Raw festival in Arizona and am planning to make some when those run out. My husband also calls me several times a day to tell me he is perfect on the diet for (?) hours that day and he calls me and tells me when he isn't and lists what he "fell off" with. Knowing he is has committed to do that (his idea not mine) seems to really help him. He's a severe diabetic when not raw so he really needs to stay "on". We both have had serious health issues clear up or greatly improve on raw but we still need help with motivation constantly - doing this…answering someone elses questions also helps us. Hope this has helped you some! Just try to remember that the (fill in the blank with your most tempting SAD food) doesn't taste as good as raw feels. It is hard, I know and would never ever deny that.
