At first glance the concept of Fruitarianism sounds GROOVY.
I mean it’s way beyond Vegetarianism and even Veganism. A true Fruitarian won’t even kill a plant. Everything must be freely given by the plant.
And in theory in think that’s a FANTASTIC idea. But does it work for the long term?
Luckily, early on in my raw food education I was warned of the dangers of fruitarianism by raw food leaders who knew of people who had either died or had their health severely compromised by a sustained fruitarian diet.
The big problem with fruitarianism and in general a raw food diet is getting enough minerals.
Have you ever heard of Johnny Lovewisdom? He was a famous fruitarian who’s health went downhill “to the max” after a prolonged fruit only diet. I couldn’t believe how many health complications he had.
He was an example of someone being sick due to nutrient deficiency and not necessarily due to toxemia. I believe there’s lots of information about him on the Internet. If I remember correctly he also died at a fairly young age.
I’ve also recently read that some fruitarians or low greens eaters were suffering with tropical ulcers. From what I’ve learned of tropical ulcers it seems to happen or at least persist in people who are undernourished.
The problem is that “cultivated” fruit just isn’t that high in minerals. And I don’t know anyone who only eats wild fruit and is a fruitarian.
That might be pretty hard to accomplish.
So to have ideal health on a low fat and high fruit raw food diet, you absolutely must eat GOBS of greens. I’m quite certain that’s one of the main reasons I’m doing so incredibly well after almost 9 years of being 100% raw.
Sure you can do well a year or two on fruits alone. But most people will start to have some serious health issues if they continue on fruit only or just even moderate amounts of greens for more than 3 to 5 years.
Personally, I just eat a ton of greens and I’m not forcing myself.
I eat them in the form of my primo Savory Veggie Stews because I love the flavor and the texture. Just about anyone will easily double if not triple their intake of greens by eating Savory Veggie Stews.
That’s exactly what happened to my lovely Karmyn when I met her. And because of Savory Veggie Stews she was finally able to stay 100% raw without struggle or cooked food binges.
Lettuces and greens of all kinds are the most mineral rich and safe source of minerals for raw foodists to eat. Virtually nothing compares to spinach in terms of mineral density per calorie.
And you know what?
Spinach makes for the best Savory Veggie Stews.
Eating vegetables goes from being a chore to being something you crave. These stews are so dang cool that you’ll just forget about your cooked food cravings.
The dinnertime cooked food cravings urge is a MEGARIFIC problem for most people who haven’t been 100% raw at least a year. And it’s a problem even for many long term raw foodists.
Eventually people just get bored of only eating fruit. They need something savory, something that reminds them of cooked food, but is super nutritious and easy to prepare.
That’s what Savory Veggie Stews are all about.
Now I will say this. There’s at least one fruit that is really mineral rich. So if you want to stay a strict fruitarian I’d suggest you eat a lot of raw okra. And actually cucumber is also technically a fruit and is quite mineral rich as well.
So if you’re a strict fruitarian make sure you gobble up the okra and cucumber in massive quantities. Hopefully you’ll do alright.
Let me know if you have questions on this topic as I do have more info. For instance, how you visually look at a certain part of your body and quickly determine if you’re low on minerals.
