Why I ate a Pastrami Sandwich Last Night

Ok, I know what you’re thinking, me Roger Haeske a long time raw foodist eating a cooked and meat containing pastrami sandwich.

But what I meant to say is that I ate a Kastrami sandwich.

This is the raw vegan version of a pastrami sandwich that Karmyn and I co-created last night.

Man was that an explosion of delicious flavors. And the funny thing is that it takes less than 5-minutes to put one of these savory raw sandwiches together.

Now I must warn you, this sandwich is not something I recommend you eat often. While it gave Karmyn and me a mind blowing food orgasm, it has some ingredients in it that I don’t recommend you eat on a regular basis.

The reason it starts with a K instead of a P is because of one of the ingredients that makes it taste like Pastrami. It’s a raw version of Kimchi that we were able to pick up at the local co-op.

I don’t recommend Kimchi as the normal part of the diet for 2 reasons. One it’s a fermented food and that has many problems with it which I don’t have time to get into now. Secondly it’s quite high in added salt content.

But if you eat this once every few months it won’t be the end of the world. And it will still have less sodium than a traditional pastrami sandwich and be WAY better for you.

Imagine being able to eat a relatively healthy pastrami sandwich.

Never could I have imagined the incredibly delicious foods I’d be eating as a raw foodist when I first started going raw. When I first started I gave up after only three days because the food was just way too boring for me.

But I was telling Karmyn there’s no way she would have cheated on cooked food in her earlier attempts at going 100% raw if she had known about all of the incredible foods and recipes we’ve shared together in our kitchen over the last year or so. The same with me. I just had no idea it could be so delicious and healthy at the same time.

I mean, we simply love our home prepared raw foods. And it’s much better than the Hollywood style high fat, gourmet raw recipes at most raw food restaurants. And we can eat as much as we want of it because it’s way cheaper than going out to an expensive raw restaurant.

We tried a new raw restaurant out here in Ashland, Oregon the other day. It’s was fairly good, but it cost me over $50 for a meal for two people.

Why should I pay that when I can pay a quarter of that price actually MUCH less and have more food and better tasting food at home?

So in celebration of our move to Oregon and of the wonderful produce we’ve discovered here we’ve decided to do something really special for you.

We’ve created the “Oregon Kastrami Special.”
